The Mystery of Ephesians

by Michael Paz

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love: (Eph. 1:3,4).

This in a few words is the Mystery of Ephesians (cf. Eph. 1:9; 3:3,9; 5:32; 6:19).

This Mystery has to do with God's will: "That in the dispensation of the fulness of times He might head up all things in Christ, both which are in the heavens, and which are on earth; even in Him:" (Eph. 1:10).

This Mystery was "from the ages hid in God" (Eph. 3:9). The ages of the Adamic race began with Genesis 1:3 when God said "Let there be light". But even before that first day, God has already willed "the mystery" and that He hid it until the time He revealed it through the apostle Paul (Eph. 3:3).

This Mystery was called as such because it was hid in God prior to revelation but when it was revealed it is called a dispensation since it was how God now deals with all men. Prior to its revelation, God dealt with men only through Israel. But with the reveation of the mystery, God now deals with men through the relationship concerning Christ and the Church.

This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the Church. (Eph. 5:32)
